Welcome to our World: The GFI Blog

As we ring in the New Year and another season of Global Lens, we’re pleased to announce a new addition to our ever-evolving online identity—the Global Film Initiative blog!

From filmmaker interviews to news on our latest grants and releases (and the occasional update from a remote corner of the world), visit our blog to get highlights from our various programs and stay connected with all the films, individuals and ideas at the Global Film Initiative.  For example, did you know:

Diego Lerman’s new film THE INVISIBLE EYE (Argentina) was awarded the Special Jury Prize at the 2010 Havana International Film Festival, and SOUL OF SAND (India) by Sidharth Srinivasan was rated by Forbes magazine as one of five Indian films ‘to look forward to in 2011’ (both films are featured in Global Lens 2011—see below!).

Or, SHIRLEY ADAMS (South Africa), featured in Global Lens 2010, will be touring the U.S. again, this time as part of the African Film Festival.  And speaking of Africa, did you know that Susan Weeks Coulter, founder of the Global Film Initiative recently visited Ougadougou, Burkina Faso and met with legendary filmmaker, Gaston Kaboré at the Imagine Institute, to discuss our continuing support of the Burkinabe film industry?

This is just a small sample of what you’ll find here.  All postings are written by staff and guest contributors (including Robert Avila, GFI’s education writer and author of our film discussion guides), and if you signup for our newsletter, every month we’ll send you a summary of blog-highlights via email!
