Well, friends. We made it through December 21, 2012 (and the rest of 2012, as far as I’m concerned) sans an apocalypse, which means that those of us who were eagerly looking forward to leaving behind our worries–like mortgage payments and reality TV–will undoubtedly have to rethink our plans. Thankfully, we’re at the start of a new year (GFI’s tenth), and it’s a great time fora fresh start and a few New Year’s resolutions…

Aside from watching more Global Lens films, another resolution that should definitely be included on your priority list is to apply to our Winter 2013 granting cycle for feature film production grants—it’s not only simple, but it also fulfills all the different aspects of a S.M.A.R.T. goal (the most useful kind)!

Specific – You can’t get any more specific than GFI’s 2013 Winter application for feature film production grants!

Measurable – Grants of $10,000 USD or $1,000 USD will be awarded during the Winter cycle to up to 10 different film projects!

Attainable – It may be a difficult task to secure funding for a feature film, but it certainly isn’t impossible. Just ask the filmmakers and producers of the more than 132 films from around the world that we’ve funded since 2003!

Realistic – For the majority of independent filmmakers, securing funding for a feature film production via grants, film funds and crowd-sourcing is an everyday reality. An application to our program brings a filmmaker and their project one step closer to completing their film.

Timely – What would a true resolution be without a target date? In this case, applications are accepted until the postmark deadline of January 15, 2013, which means there are less than three weeks left to submit your application! So don’t delay!

Visit our Granting Program web page today and review our Granting Guidelines in order to submit your application before the January 15, 2013 deadline! It may be one of the S.M.A.R.T.-est decisions of 2013!

The Granting Program awards fifteen to twenty grants per year, of up to $10,000 each, to filmmakers whose work exhibits artistic excellence, accomplished storytelling and cultural perspective on daily life. Funds received from grants are used to subsidize post-production costs such as laboratory and sound mixing fees, and access to advanced editing systems.

The Global Film Initiative’s next granting cycle is Winter 2013. Applications may be submitted from November 15, 2012 until the submission deadline on January 15, 2013. For more information on applications, eligibility and guidelines, please visit the Global Film Initiative’s website: http://globalfilm.org/granting.htm.
