We’re only about five months away from the 85th Academy Awards—and we hope you’re as excited as we are, especially since WHEN I SAW YOU (dir. Annemarie Jacir, Palestine/Jordan, 2011 honorable mention) is among the list of international submissions! As we await the final nominations announcement, get (re-)acquainted with Annemarie via her interview with the Doha Film Institute, here.

Four films from the Global Lens 2012 series are making their presence known at this year’s Edmonton International Film Festival: CRAFT (dir. Gustavo Pizzi, Brazil), FAT, BALD, SHORT MAN (dir. Carlos Osuna, Colombia), THE FINGER (dir. Sergio Teubal, Argentina) and MOURNING (dir. Morteza Farshbaf, Iran). CHICAMA (dir. Omar Forero, Peru, 2012 honorable mention) won a total of five prizes at the Lima Film Festival, the most prizes garnered by a film at this year’s festival! The film won Best Peruvian Film (awarded by the Ministry of Culture), Special Mention by the Jury for Official Selection in Fiction, Special Mention by the International Critics Jury, Best FX Design for a Peruvian Film as voted by the Public and Second Prize of the Public. Wow!
