SOUTHWEST (coming soon via Global Lens 2013!) wins a critics award in Montreal, WHEN I SAW YOU wins Best Arab Film in Abu Dhabi and MISS LOVELY takes the festival circuit by storm!

It’s a new month and that means more festival appearances and awards for our Global Lens and GFI-funded films! See below for the latest updates:

ABU DHABI FILM FESTIVAL:
WHEN I SAW YOU (dir. Annemarie Jacir, Palestine/Jordan, Summer 2011 honorable mention) won Best Arab Film at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival, where it also made its Middle Eastern debut! Watch an interview at the festival with director Annemarie Jacir here, and congratulations to the film’s cast and crew!

BUSAN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL:
In Busan, WILDLIFE (dir. Adolfo Alix Jr., Philippines, Winter 2012 honorable mention) enjoyed its international premiere at this year’s International Film Festival. And, in case you missed it, we recently announced our acquisition of three Busan IFF films for the Global Lens 2013 series! DHARAMSHALA FILM FESTIVAL:
MISS LOVELY (dir. Ashim Ahluwalia, India, Winter 2010 grantee) will screen in November at the first edition of the Dharamshala International Film Festival. Click hereto watch the trailer of this spectacular film.

FILM BUZZ WITH DUBAI INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL:
Every month the Dubai International Film Festival hosts a “Film Buzz” showcase of works from a particular region of the world. MOURNING (dir. Morteza Farshbaf, Iran, Global Lens 2012) was selected as part of September’s program to highlight some of the year’s best films from Iran. FESTIVAL DU NOUVEAU CINEMA:
Recent GFI acquisition SOUTHWEST (dir. Eduardo Nunes, Brazil, Global Lens 2013) won Best International Feature Film from the AQCC (Quebec Film Critics’ Association) at the Montreal Festival du Nouveau Cinema. See what the critics are talking about and view the trailer here!

MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL:

MUMBAI FILM FESTIVAL:
The Mumbai Film Festival’s line-up for its inaugural competition for Indian features, “India Gold,” includes MISS LOVELY (above) as one of the selections. This film, along with 13 others, will be in competition for prizes up to $31,000. Join us in wishing the MISS LOVELY team great luck!

EAST & WEST INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL:
We congratulate AMNESTY (dir. Bujar Alimani, Albania, Global Lens 2012) for receiving the East & West International Film Festival’s prize for best actress! Admire the film’s ingénue, Luli Bitri, in this clip from the film!

SAO PAULO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL:
The Sao Paulo International Film Festival features WHEN I SAW YOU (above), as part of the festival’s 36th edition! To see a trailer of the film, click here!

SOUTH ASIAN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL:

Last, but certainly not least, WILDLIFE (above) won the NETPAC Award for Best Asian Film at the Warsaw Film Festival! Catch director Adolfo Alix Jr. in this interview at the festival!
